I Call a Do Over

You know how when you have a lot of things on your to-do list, and instead of checking them off one by one, you just lie down and take a nap?  Or ignore it and scroll through Pinterest?  That’s how I’ve been feeling about my little blog for the past, oh, say 6 months.

It makes me so sad!  I was having a lot of fun writing posts and I had so many plans.  I was going to keep track of all the new products that I tried.  I was going to clean out my recipe folder and post the results whether it was hit or a miss.

What happened?

I’m not sure but I’m calling a do over!  I’ve made the decision to only post my beauty boxes on Instagram since the end of the month round-ups were a bit of a bust . I’m bringing back Love It, Like It, or Lose It after yet another run-in with a breakout inducing moisturizer that turns out I have already tried.  I’m going to tackle that aforementioned recipe folder and start posting about my culinary adventures (which could be really entertaining considering I just bought an Instant Pot).

I think my first post though, (ok not first but you know what I mean), will be about the 5 Day Sugar Free Challenge my insane friend Becky talked me into doing with her.  That starts tomorrow and I’m super curious to see how long it will take me to start feeling murderous. 😀

Anyway, cheers to new beginnings!

August Beauty Box Roundup

The first box that I received this month was my Wal-Mart Beauty box.  As always, a great value at $5 and full of practical and pampering items.

It contained:

  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sheet Mask
  • Kleenex Wet Wipes
  • Pantene Sheer Volume Foam Conditioner
  • Nair Wax Strips
  • Garnier Fructis 1 Minute Hair Mask
  • Garnier Skin Active 3 In 1 Moisturizer

Next up was my Birchbox!  My eldest daughter promptly stole that green sparkly lip gloss (it’s one of those shade adjusting glosses), and I have to say that I’m very intrigued by this dry shampoo foam.

The contents:

  • Amika Phantom Hydrating Dry Shampoo Foam
  • Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel in “Clear”
  • Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Serum Mask
  • Oribe Featherbalm Weightless Styler
  • Winky Lux Disco Kitten Gloss in “Groovy”

And last but certainly not least, I received my Allure box.  At least one full-size item is typically included in Allure’s box and this month it was a stick highlighter!

The contents:

  • Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
  • Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
  • Laritzy Cosmetics Light Stix in “Halo”
  • Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
  • Nexxus Keraphix Damage Healing Shampoo and Conditioner

What where your favorite items you received in your beauty boxes this month?  I think mine are the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask (I love that line!), the Amika Dry Shampoo Foam (Though I’m a little scared to try it!  Any tips?), and the Laritzy Highlighter (Can never have too many highlighters!)

July Beauty Box Roundup

Just two boxes again this month but so, so many goodies!

Here’s my Birchbox –

  • Amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Balm
  • ARROW Revive Cooling Cheek Tint in “Berry Flush”
  • Love Sun Body Natural Origin Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30
  • MakeupDrop The Original Silicone Makeup Applicator
  • Vasanti Makeup Magnet Wipes

Great box overall!  I’m always excited to get makeup removing wipes and cleansing cloths for those evenings when I’m too lazy to go through my full skincare routine.  Have you tried any silicone makeup applicators?  I was intrigued when they first came out but could never bring myself to buy one.  I guess I just always figured there’s no way it’ll be as good as my BeautyBlender.  We’ll see if I was right!

My Allure box –

  • Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil
  • Feel Harmony Rose Petal Facial Mask
  • Doucce Ultra Precision Eyeliner in “Blue”
  • Derma-E Essential Mineral Powder
  • OUAI Haircare Leave In Conditioner
  • MUFE Artist Color Pencil in “Wherever Walnut”
  • The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm
  • Olay Regenerist Whip Moisturizer (Bonus)
  • Baublebar Earrings (Bonus Gift)

This box was absolutely loaded!  And almost everything in it is something that I already know and love (OUAI I’m looking at you) or that I’m absolutely looking forward to trying!

What I’m Reading: What Can I Bring? Southern Food For Any Occasion Life Serves Up

This is one of those cookbooks that caught my eye at the library, that I had absolutely zero expectations for, and that I decided almost immediately that I’m going to have to buy.  Any time I flip through a new cookbook I always have a note pad and a pen to jot down the recipes I’m interested in trying.  By the time I had 15 recipes listed I realized that there was no way I’d have enough time to try out all of them.

I have the Yoste Roast in the slow cooker as I type this, and I purchased the ingredients to make the Coconut Glop Cake (pictured below) later in the week.  Those recipes, along with Jezebel Sauce (which I’d never heard of until now), Shrimp and Corn Dip, Cola Cake, and Hangover Sliders, (which could come in handy considering July 4th) I had a really hard time deciding on what recipes to make before the book was due back!

P.S. – (Adding this the morning of posting!)  The Yoste Roast was amazing!  We served it alongside some roasted carrots and potatoes initially and also followed the author’s suggestion for sandwiches later.  Some crusty bread, piled high with shredded beef, topped with provolone, and popped in the toaster oven until melty… OMG.  I served those alongside some leftover broth for dipping and it was spicy sandwich heaven.  I will absolutely be making these again.  (This recipe was so easy!  And next time, I’ll remember to post pics and the recipe!)

June Beauty Box Roundup

I’ve decided to stop posting about the individual beauty boxes that I receive.  It was starting to feel really monotonous posting about the exact same (or very similar) beauty boxes that every other beauty blogger already posted about.  I considered switching over to only posting on Instagram (you can follow me here) but decided to give multi-box posts a go first.  So, with the exception of receiving something absolutely fricking amazing, I’m just going to do end of the month roundups.

Here’s my latest Wal-Mart Beauty Box –

  • Rembrandt 3 Day Whitening Boost Kit
  • Softsoap Earth Blends Body Wash
  • Pantene Sheer Volume Foam Conditioner
  • Hello Sensitivity Relief Toothpaste
  • Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer
  • Sooo AE Acai Berry Revitalizing Sleeping Mask

Birchbox –

  • Boutanique Beauty Glow Serum
  • Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum
  • Grande Cosmetics Grande Mascara
  • Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray
  • Philosophy Purity Made Simple Moisturizer

And last but certainly not least, my Allure x Kat Von D box –

  • Ole Henriksen Transforming Walnut Scrub (full-size)
  • Kat Von D Everlasting Lip Liner in “Lolita” (full-size)
  • Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in “Double Dare”
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in “Trooper Black”
  • Travel Mirror

Did you receive any of these boxes?  Which item is your favorite?

May Allure Beauty Box

I just realized that I completely skipped posting April’s Allure Beauty Box!  It’s sitting there in my drafts ready to go, and I uploaded a pic to Instagram (over to the left if you care to take a peek), but I never actually posted.  Geez Louise do I need to get more organized!  (Maybe that’s where my son gets his lack of planning from…  See this Prom post here.)

I did not forget May’s contents however and here they are –

  • Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks
  • Kenra Dry Oil Control Hair Spray
  • First Aid Beauty HELLO FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer
  • St. Tropez Instant Tan Finishing Gloss
  • CLE Melting Lip Powder in “Desert Rose”
  • Elnet Satin Hairspray

I’m most intrigued by the Dry Oil Control Hairspray and the Melting Lip Powder.  Will this hairspray finally control those “baby” hairs along my hairline?  Then the Melting Lip Powder just sounds neat and I can hardly wait to see what it feels like!

Parenting: Prom Edition

The Scene – Living room.  Sitting on the sofa watching Sherlock on Netflix with my eldest daughter.  Approximately 10pm.  My 17 year-old son Jason comes home from work and the following conversation unfolds.

Jason: I keep forgetting to tell you, I’m taking Lexi to Prom

Me: Oh!  When is Prom?

Jason:  Tomorrow.

Me: What?!  Did you rent a tux?

Jason: What? No. Why would I do that?

Me: Did you order her a corsage?

Jason: What’s a corsage?

Me:  *sighs* We’ll talk about this tomorrow.

The next morning (a.k.a the day of Prom) was a flurry of me calling local florists to see if anyone had a corsage still available, (3rd Florist: “We have one left.  It’s a white carnation with silver ribbon…”  Me: “Perfect!  That will match with anything!”) and him trying on clothes in both his and his father’s closets.  Ultimately, we put together a shirt and tie from his closet and slacks and shoes from his father’s that were close enough to fitting to work.  (Thank goodness for belts!)

Now that we had a corsage and respectable attire, I stress to Jason that he needs to bring his date over after he picks her up so I can take the obligatory pictures.  He agrees and I ask him, “Where are you going to take her for dinner?”

Jason:  I have to take her to dinner?!

Me:  Yes!  You pick her up.  You come here so I can take pictures.  You take her to dinner. You take her to Prom.

Jason:  Oh.  (Looks to the sky in thought)  Well… She likes Dairy Queen.

Me: *sighs*

(He ended up taking her to Village Inn, which is at least a sit down restaurant!)
